The Desert Art Center is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to stimulate, educate and nurture the visual arts by and for the local community and beyond. As the oldest arts association in the Coachella Valley — it was established in 1950 — the DAC is a membership organization with some 250 members, many of whom have successfully juried to exhibit their work in the art gallery.
The Center, in the landmark building that housed Palm Springs’ first school, is located next to the Palm Canyon Theater and Frances Stevens Park on historic Palm Canyon Drive. In addition to its vibrant promotion of local art work, the DAC also offers affordable art education to both students and adults in addition to using proceeds from art sales to fund arts grants and scholarships.
The gallery offers a wide variety of art for purchase, from paintings in oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastels and other media to jewelry, sculptures, ceramics, glasswork, fiber, bronze and photography. In addition to bi-monthly gallery openings, the gallery also has featured artist shows every month from October to June in its newly refurbished Studio Gallery.
Art classes are offered daily in oils, Plein-Air, watercolors, sculpture, pottery and life drawing. Class size is limited so reservations are necessary.
Online Zoom classes are available with artist Julianna Poldi and Jessica Schiffman.
