Cocktails and Karaoke in Palm Springs

By Kevin Perry

How well can you carry a tune, on a scale of one to Sinatra? Even if you can’t match Ol’ Blue Eyes in tone, you can find plenty of pitch perfect Palm Springs entertainment worthy of the Rat Pack.

Open your heart to the open-mic shenanigans of karaoke throughout the week. RetroRoom Lounge offers daily themes with cocktails to match. For example, get spicy on the scene and then cool your palate with authentic Mexican libations. It’s Tequila Tuesday! Or enjoy classic rock paired with vintage beverages on Throwback Thursdays. Regardless of the night, RetroRoom does it right!

If you like your drinks as strong as your vibrato, then park it at Streetbar. Sip on a signature Maker’s Mark Manhattan as the local talent charms your pants off. Sunday through Wednesday, they’re flexing their pipes for your benefit, plus they recently added a special Saturday karaoke event that you simply must experience, darling. A down-home drag queen named Aunt Lyla concocts original songs as the bar staff keeps your cup brimming with stiff drinks. Innuendo ahoy!

Tuesday Never Sounded So Good

And now that your vocal cords are warmed up, ignite the night at Fireside Lounge. Every Tuesday at 9pm, this sporty sass factory churns out hits galore. To add fuel to the flames, try one of their custom cocktails – we’re thinking Bloody Mary’s packed with protein in the form of bacon and shrimp. They’re not just for breakfast anymore! Fireside Lounge is a truly tremendous tucked-away establishment, but don’t let their unassuming nature fool you. The clientele is immensely outgoing, so pull up a chair and croon like you just don’t care! This is a bit hidden even for locals.

But wait: that Tuesday timeslot is smoking hot. The Village also amps up at 9pm, so you’ll need to make some ch-ch-ch-ch-choices. Nestled harmoniously in the heart of downtown, The Village offers robust rib-sticking fare to rev you up for your karaoke performance. Try their Pub Margarita and/or Hibachi Tilapia. Also, don’t turn your back on the Truffle Mac! Order a bucket of beers for you and your besties and sing, sing, (chicken) wing the night away!

Oh, but your options don’t end there. If you want to get a jump on the Tuesday night festivities, bag a spot at Hunters. Their karaoke proceedings start around 8:30 and go until midnight, so it’s the ideal stage to bookend your bravura tour. And every superstar deserves an equally sublime sipper, so try the Spicy Margarita, if you dare. Or slurp down Jell-O infused with booze. How else will you muster up more courage for your next triumphant tune?

Mid-Week Shenanigans

You survived Tuesday. Congrats! You must celebrate immediately. Put some hip in your happy hour every Wednesday starting at 6pm. V Wine Lounge is toasting to your talent, so join the party. Despite the name, this enchanting establishment offers so much more than vino. Explore their specialty drink menu and discover a dazzling selection of martinis. For example, the Orange Crush blends mandarin vodka with a hint of soda and cranberry juice. If your sweet tooth is even more ravenous, bite into the Jolly Rancher Martini, made with raspberry liqueur, fresh lime juice and triple sec cascading over a foundation of raspberry vodka. You’ll be sufficiently satiated by the time you belt out your song(s) of choice. Karaoke ends at 9pm, so sing early and rest up for whatever’s next! V wine bar Karaoke

Karaoke Hot Spots

Much like your singing skills, many events in Palm Springs are hidden. Tonga Hut has its own secret space where special gatherings often bubble up unexpectedly. This tiki stronghold has been known to set sail with a combination of words that’s already music to our ears: Yacht Rock Karaoke Night! And if you like the sound of that, you should try their fierce and fruity mélange of cocktails. Starting with a base of homemade hibiscus syrup, the Tonga mixologists can whip up an array of deliciousness, most notably their Mojave Punch. It’s a knockout!

OK, it’s time to ditch the training wheels. You’re a pro now! Palm Canyon Roadhouse proudly eschews the term karaoke in favor of open mic, so there’s no prompter serving as your backup band. You need to know the lyrics cold! And speaking of cold, the Roadhouse is stocked with the chillest pours in town, so drink up and get down! Karao—oops, we mean open mic night is every Sunday from 5pm to 10pm.

It’s time to get into the groove. The beat has begun, the stage is set, and your star is on the rise. Catch it! Karaoke and cocktails await in Palm Springs.
