Yelp calls it one of the top three restaurants in Palm Springs. TripAdvisor puts it in the top two. But to Miro Terzic, owner of the beloved Miro’s Restaurant in Palm Springs, it’s more than a hotspot for fine dining—it’s home.
A Family-Run Restaurant Rooted in Resilience
Miro’s Restaurant isn’t just another eatery on South Palm Canyon Drive. It’s a labor of love built by a family that fled war-torn Yugoslavia in the early 1990s, seeking refuge and a fresh start in the Coachella Valley.
“I moved into the area in ’94,” Miro explains. “We were trying to settle here after leaving what used to be Yugoslavia. Driving down the street one day, I saw this beautiful Mediterranean-style building and instantly fell in love with it. That’s where our story began.”
With no formal culinary background—Miro was a schoolteacher, his wife was a medical doctor, and his mother, Tidja, was the only one with kitchen experience—the family ventured into the unknown. “We didn’t know much about the restaurant business, but we had passion, persistence, and a shared vision,” Miro says.
A European-Inspired Menu That’s Uniquely Palm Springs
Miro’s Restaurant is now an institution in the Palm Springs dining scene, known for its ever-changing European menu, warm hospitality, and elegant yet unpretentious atmosphere.
“When we opened, our idea was to focus on Central European cuisine,” Miro says. “But as time went on, we expanded to include recipes and flavors from across the continent—Norwegian dishes, Russian influences, French sauces, Moroccan spices. It’s a weekly experiment. Our dinner specials rotate 20 to 25 items regularly.”
Every dish is crafted with care and quality ingredients, from Beef Stroganoff made with tenderloin to two-day braised Pork Osso Buco in an apple Madeira demi-glace.
“Our schnitzel—both pork and veal—is another big seller,” Miro adds. “And seafood is huge for us. Last Saturday alone, we served 227 guests, and nearly half of them ordered fish.”
Authentic, Fresh, and Always Homemade
Freshness is at the heart of every plate at Miro’s. The team bakes bread daily, and the dessert menu is stacked with European classics: flaky apple strudel, handmade baklava, and a flourless chocolate cake crafted by Miro’s wife that has its own loyal fan base.
“We don’t take shortcuts,” Miro says. “We serve traditional recipes with fresh ingredients and a lot of love. That’s what keeps people coming back.”
Wine, Ambiance, and a Taste of Europe in Palm Springs
Miro’s offers more than just a meal—it’s an experience. The full-service bar features curated wines from Austria, the Croatian Islands, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, selected to pair perfectly with the menu. The Mediterranean-style setting feels like a European escape, nestled right in the heart of Palm Springs.
With consistently glowing reviews and loyal locals who consider it a favorite, Miro’s Restaurant is a must-visit for food lovers seeking something beyond the typical.
.A Local Legend with Global Roots
Despite all the accolades, Miro remains humble. “We struggled for years,” he admits. “But about 15 years ago, things really changed. People recognized our devotion and the quality we put into every dish. I’m so grateful for this community.”
Now in his late 50s, Miro reflects on his journey. “Palm Springs is home. I came here as a young man. This is where I raised my family, built a business, and found purpose. Retirement? Maybe someday. But right now, I just want to keep serving great food.”
