Uniquely Ours: Palm Springs with Evita Robinson
Emmy Award-Winning Storyteller. Global Trailblazer. Your Guide to a More Colorful Palm Springs.
Meet Evita Robinson—cultural disruptor, media host, and founder of the groundbreaking NOMADNESS Travel Tribe. With over 30,000 members across the globe, her mission has always been clear: make travel more inclusive, more dynamic, and more connected. Now, she’s bringing that same vision to Palm Springs.
🎥 A New Kind of Travel Guide
Evita will host short, visually stunning videos celebrating the city through her signature lens—bold, inclusive, and joyfully curious. These digital stories will offer you a new way to experience Palm Springs through the eyes of one of travel’s most influential changemakers.
From NOMADNESS to the Desert
Evita first made waves in 2011 with the launch of NOMADNESS, a travel community built for—and by—travelers of color. What started as a Facebook group sparked a global movement, with meetups, international trips, and the groundbreaking NOMADNESS Fest, the first travel festival dedicated to BIPOC explorers.
Her work has been recognized by National Geographic, Entrepreneur Magazine, AFAR, The Root 100, and even the Obama White House. She’s shared the stage with TED, co-created a series with Issa Rae, and partnered with major brands to tell stories that matter.
Now, she’s telling the story of Palm Springs.

The Colors of Palm Springs — Emmy Award-Winning
Evita’s vibrant exploration of the city, The Colors of Palm Springs, didn’t just turn heads—it won an Emmy Award. In this video, she captures the unexpected beauty, cultural richness, and diverse voices that define Palm Springs today. From midcentury modern marvels to murals, markets, and desert magic, Evita shines a spotlight on the city like never before.
The latest series with @visitpalmsprings returns to the heart of the desert—Palm Springs, California—offering a deeper look into the city’s rich cultural fabric. This time around, the spotlight is on the diverse communities that make up Palm Springs, from savoring Belgian and French cuisine at Pomme Frite and buttery croissants at Peninsula Pastries, to discovering creative pop-ups like the Mexican-Japanese fusion of Hoja Blanca. The journey continues with a warm welcome at Lola’s Ally’s Kusina, where traditional Filipino flavors take center stage.
The series also explores the city’s Black history, featuring experiences with Urban Palm Springs and connections made with the Nomadness Tribe.
This city made me fall in love with deserts, breeds creativity, and even won me my first Emmy. However, as the founder of @nomadnesstribe – a widely recognized travel community for people of color – I have always wondered where Black people and their experiences were off the main strip.
Well… I got some answers for you with the help of my friends, and Palm Springs residents. Follow @palmspringsincolour, whose page keeps you up to date on all things Black Palm Springs. You may catch her out with our long-time #nomadnesstribe member and my dear friend Jenese. For a historical breakdown of the Black and Indigenous communities in Palm Springs, please reach out to Dieter at @urbanpalmsprings for the Urban Palm Springs Black History Tour.
Craving a taste of Europe in the heart of the desert? Meet Helene and Christophe, the charming French couple behind Peninsula Pastries, where every bite of their handcrafted desserts and pastries feels like a trip to Western Europe. Their dedication and precision in the kitchen are unmatched—this isn’t just baking, it’s an art form. (Heads up: Peninsula Pastries takes a summer break from June 22 to September 11, so plan accordingly!)
And if you're looking to continue the European experience into lunch or dinner, stop by Pomme Frite, an authentic bistro on Palm Canyon Drive. Owner JC Constant serves up beloved French classics—don’t miss the moules frites, a personal favorite. Both spots offer not just incredible food, but a true sense of European hospitality right here in Palm Springs.
The best restaurant, is grandma’s kitchen.
It doesn’t matter the culture; we all know that when grandmothers and aunts are in the kitchen, the entire spread is going to be delicious, and most importantly, overflowing with love. That’s what you get when you bite into anything coming off the stove or out of the fryer from @lolasallyskusina. Being welcomed into their home, experiencing their cooking process, and absorbing their magnetic family energy was like savoring Filipino soul food. Stop by their booth on Thursday night’s VillageFest – and beware, they sell out quickly!
Pulling from his Filipino roots, the Palm Springs-based artist Marconi Calindas creates some of the most vibrant artwork I’ve ever seen. Mixing old Hollywood notables with reimagined and colorful abstract landscapes gives Marconi’s work its definitive style. When you visit his studio, be sure to look closely; some of his pieces even have 3D elements. Ask for the 3D glasses and prepare to be blown away!
