The Movie Colony Hotel is a 17-room boutique hotel in downtown Palm Springs. Its expansive 2,000 sq. ft. pool deck includes a pool, hot tub, and lounge area.
The Movie Colony in the aptly named Movie Colony neighborhood was designed by Albert Frey and built in 1935 as a three-unit townhouse complex known as the San Jacinto Hotel.
The hotel became popular among Hollywood celebrities during the golden age of cinema in the 1940s and 1950s. Its close proximity to Los Angeles made it an ideal retreat for movie stars looking for a getaway from the pressures of fame.
In 2003, the hotel underwent a major restoration project to preserve its historical significance while adding modern amenities. The original features, such as the courtyard with a sparkling pool, were carefully restored to maintain the hotel’s unique character.
The hotel offers two different suite options and three different room types. All rooms have a seating area with a chaise lounge or loveseat. The linens are 300 thread count, and the mattresses are pillowtop.
The Standard and Deluxe King is steps from the courtyard and pool. This classically appointed room features minimalist décor, a pillowtop king bed, your own refrigerator, and a cozy sitting area.
The King Suite includes a large separate living space with a sleeper sofa and private patio.
There is also a Double Queen Suite.
