The theatre internships give high school students the on-the-job experience of working in professional productions. They work in a professional environment, expanding and putting into practice what they have learned in school. Desert Ensemble Theatre awards scholarships to graduating seniors who have completed the internships and plan to continue their higher education in theatre arts.
Internationally celebrated playwright, director and producer Tony Padilla founded Desert Ensemble Theatre in 2011. In 2018, Jerome Elliott Moskowitz succeeded him as Artistic Director. A director, playwright and cabaret artist, Jerome works with Executive Director Shawn Abramowitz to advance Tony’s vision of a community theatre focused on vibrant new and recent works that speaks to contemporary culture. In 2021, the company established an ongoing residency at the Palm Springs Cultural Center.
