Wolf Contemporary is a curated art and design gallery in the Uptown Design District. Directed by Mark Rose, Wolf showcases works by contemporary California artists, rare findings, and unique designs in a gallery setting. This can include antique artifacts, rare vintage designer handbags, modern and vintage jewelry, and occasional statement furniture. Each piece of art or design has a story, history, and meaning. All pieces are offered with refinement, style, and supreme quality.
Mark Rose began collecting art deco objects early from small-town Iowa flea markets and antique shops. He graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with an emphasis in fashion design. There, he developed a deep interest in Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, a German-born American architect. He is known for his role in developing modernism and the dictum “Less is more.” In 1947, the Bauhaus movement relocated to the U.S. and became known as the International Style.
In 1998, Mark first visited Palm Springs. Enchanted by the Nuetra house and the bounty of midcentury design homes, he purchased a classic Wexler home with a pool and diving board and never looked back.
Mark built his career in Los Angeles. There, he worked with high-end Italian furniture brands, including opening interior designer Giulio Capellini’s first LA showroom. Giulio is the founder and art director of the Italian furniture company Cappellini, which is based in Milan.
He went on to work with Blackman Cruz, which is considered one of the best antique and modern furniture galleries in Los Angeles. In 2005, he opened Rose, his first art and design boutique on Abbot Kinney in Venice. Rose became noted for its eclectic curation and style and its A-list celebrity clientele. In 2009, he began designing large-scale commercial and residential interior projects for private clients.
Wolf is a culmination of Mark’s experience and interests in exceptional art and design. Palm Springs provides the perfect environment to engage with collectors worldwide.
