The focus of artist Tim J Leary’s work is juxtaposition. Juxtaposition of forms, colors, and textures.
A beautiful shape is beautiful wherever you find it. You might find it in nature, like the curve of a mountaintop or branch, or it might be a peculiar angle you notice in a room. Wherever they are, these shapes are alluring and invite closer observation. In creating drawings or paintings, Tim hopes to take the angles, shapes, and colors that appear beautiful to him and bring them together to reveal what makes them appealing. Content, context, and sincerity are equally important in creating evocative images that elicit emotional responses.
Tim holds an M.A. in Culture and Spirituality from Holy Names University and a Certificate in Art Therapy from U.C. Berkeley Extension. Tim started teaching in 2000 at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in San Francisco. He taught drawing, color and design theory, and creative process classes there.
In 2015, Tim and his husband moved to Palm Springs, where he is painting and exploring the desert’s shapes, light, and colors. Tim is currently a Palm Springs Art Museum’s Docents and the Artists Council member. You will find his work at the Backstreet Art District.
