About

Colony Palms Hotel and Bungalows is a luxury, boutique property located one block off the city’s main design district, just steps from shopping, dining and nightlife.

History

First established in 1936 as the Colonial House, it was built by owner Al Wertheimer, a reputed mobster and member of the infamous Purple Gang.

After World War II, the hotel was renamed Howard Manor under the ownership of Robert Howard, the son of Charles Howard (owner of the championship racehorse Seabiscuit) and Andrea Leeds Howard, an Academy Award-nominated actress. The hotel remained a glamorous haven for Hollywood stars in Palms Springs for many years.

Today, Colony Palms Hotel is renovated and re-imagined under Designer/Hotelier Steve Hermann. The Colony Palms has been transformed into one of California’s premier luxury hotels and joined Hermann Luxury Resorts.

Inside, the restaurant is reminiscent of a 1920s speakeasy that speaks to its rich history as a popular stomping ground for former owner Al Wertheimer, the reputed mobster.
