Celebrating Black History Month Through Film

When

February 28, 2024
6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Celebrate Black History Month and the 2024 theme of African Americans and the Arts with a thoughtfully curated and narrated video tour through black production and representation in film and television.

Local film archivists/historians Melissa Dollman and Devin Orgeron (Deserted Films) will guide viewers from the silent film era to the shows and films we’re watching today … a fun, informative way to EXPAND your February viewing list!!! And because it’s a Deserted Films event, there will definitely be some home movies! Includes screening of a rare, archival short form the Deserted Films archives!

Deserted Films is a non-profit created by local residents and film experts Melissa Dollman and Devin Orgeron. They are dedicated to collecting, caring for and making accessible films shot in the general Palm Springs area — as well as Southern California, surrounding desert regions. Learn more at https://desertedfilms.org/

The program begins at 6:00 p.m. at the main Library in the Learning Center.
