Angie’s smokey, well rounded voice can give listeners goosebumps on a ballad or blues and then turn around to have them tapping their feet when she swings. She “gives a show” in the true sense of the phrase with glamorous costume changes, humorous banter, and the desire to show her audience how much she appreciates them by giving everything she has during her performances.
Wells began her singing career by chance in an intimate supper club in St. Germain des Pres in Paris. She joined the trio playing that night for a few tunes, and the audience’s explosive applause encouraged her to begin training to sing professionally. Soon after, she won the New Talent Competition at the Sweet n’ Hot Jazz Festival in Los Angeles, and qualified as a semifinalist for the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition.
A ngie Wells appears at Jazzville with her world-class quartet.
